The King, The Crown & The Cross: A Good Friday Reflection

Barabbas walked free, and in him, we see ourselves. Jesus took our place without hesitation. Grace stepped in where judgment was deserved

Good Friday is often approached with a sense of solemnity and quiet reflection. Yet, during our recent service led by Pastor Albert Ofori, we were invited to see the cross through a different lens — not as a symbol of defeat, but as the ultimate expression of victory, love, and divine purpose.

Centered on the theme “The King, The Crown & The Cross,” the service unfolded as a powerful journey of worship, scripture, and revelation. From the very beginning, the atmosphere was charged with high-energy praise, reminding us that what took place on the cross was not the end of a story, but the beginning of redemption for all humanity.

At the heart of the message was the profound doctrine of substitution. Pastor Albert brought this to life through the story of Barabbas — a guilty man who was set free while Jesus, innocent and blameless, took his place. In this powerful exchange, we see ourselves. Humanity, undeserving yet chosen. Guilty, yet released. Condemned, yet redeemed. The cross becomes deeply personal when we realise that Jesus did not just die for us, but instead of us.

This truth transforms Good Friday from a day of mourning into a celebration of grace. It reminds us that the crown Jesus bore was not one of earthly honour, but of sacrifice — and through that sacrifice, He secured eternal victory for us all.

The message also came with a clear and heartfelt challenge. Grace is not meant to be received casually. It calls for a response. We were encouraged to move beyond surface-level faith and fully commit our lives to God, turning away from distractions and anything that pulls us away from His purpose. The cross demands more than acknowledgment; it invites transformation.

As the service drew to a close, the congregation joined together in prayer — a moment filled with unity, gratitude, and expectation. Prophetic blessings were declared over the year ahead, speaking hope, direction, and divine favour into every life present.

In addition, the church shared a vision for the future, inviting members to partner in faith through financial support toward a new building project. This is more than a structure; it is a step forward in expanding the work of God and creating a space where more lives can encounter His presence.

Good Friday reminds us that the story does not end at the cross. It is the turning point — where loss became victory, where death gave way to life, and where grace rewrote the destiny of mankind.

As we reflect on this message, may we carry its truth with us daily: we were the ones set free, and Christ paid the price in full.
